DOCTOR JEKYLL AND MISTER HYDE. BECAUSE THE CAT BITES ME WHEN I CARRY IT

It often happens that while we are stroking and cuddling our cat, he remains at first relaxed, serene, giving us a lot of purring and then turning into a fierce feline that bites us by taking our arm hostage and leaving us sore and dumbfounded.

This attitude: “Petting and biting Syndrome”, the bite and caress syndrome. This seemingly unwarranted behavior has a scientific explanation.

DOMINANCE

Our caresses could be compared to the action of a cat that licks the fur of one of its furry companions and is usually the dominant cat that licks and smoothes the fur immobilizing the other feline. If our cat rebels against our caresses, going from a state of purring bliss to a warlike one, it could be that he is a dominant cat and does not accept being submissive, because in feline language it is submission.

It should be added that some cats do not like to be touched in some parts of the body: the neck, the belly, the junction of the tail because they are the weak points that are attacked during the fights.

At first he accepts our caresses but after a while his instinct emerges and he feels forced and blocked in a situation of submission and reacts. If we can figure out what his limit of tolerance is, we could leave him to decide the time of the cuddles and stop them at the right time before he starts biting us.

IT IS THE CAT THAT MUST DECIDE

It must be added that the cat has very sensitive tactile receptors along the entire length of the body that if stimulated for a long time with the touch of our hand cause discomfort that he will try to avoid by starting to move away with small bites.

CHILDHOOD IS IMPORTANT:

Cats taken away too early from their mother or orphaned have not been able to learn to deal with their brothers and with their mother who during the game teaches them that during the game they must retract their claws and should not squeeze when she bites.

WHAT CAN WE DO

As I said before, we must learn to recognize the moment when the cat reveals to us that he wants to escape from our caresses.

HOW CAN WE UNDERSTAND THIS MOMENT?

Cats communicate with body language. If while you caress him he lowers his ears, dilates his pupils and moves his tail nervously, then he is close to attack.

So to avoid biting us and disproportionate attitudes, we must stop stroking it at the right time.
